The Yo-Yo Syndrome Created By Diets

The syndrome of repeatedly losing weight and gaining it back is called “yo-yoing.” Dieting establishes the pattern that creates this syndrome. When you first experience successful weight loss on a diet, you are encouraged because you find that you CAN lose weight if you want. When you gain the weight back, your frustration is initially tempered by the knowledge that you can go back on the diet when you are ready. This empowers you to eat however and whenever you want, contributing to the post-diet weight gain.

With each repeated cycle of dieting and weight gain, however, you become physically and emotionally drained. Your resolve weakens and you find it harder to remain on restrictive diets. You become pessimistic about the benefits of exercise and nutrition. Won’t they fail you as well? You become filled with guilt and self-doubt. Your relationship with food and eating is reduced to your choosing to be “good” – eating foods that you were allowed, or “bad” – eating the foods that were taboo. Hunger, satiety, and taste become secondary, or are lost altogether. And you search for another diet that will work this time. And then another.

If diets really worked there would only be one and we would be a nation of thin people.

This total weight loss program lets you abandon the destructive cycles of deprivation and binging, of guilt and reward. You will re-establish a normal relationship with food as a source of nourishment, and pleasure.
